Hypnosis - Myths about Hypnosis Is it like stage hypnotism? No. The aim of stage hypnotism is pure entertainment. Hypnotists wish to impress with their skill. They ask people to do things go against their normally inhibited behaviour, actions that have no personal meaning. The goal of hypnotherapy on the other hand is to help the client overcome personal problems that hold them back through internalised focus. Is it brainwashing or mind control? No, because it does not have any malicious intent, is done completely with the consent of the client. Brainwashing is done upon victims, usually with the aim of controlling the person. Ideas are implanted by force. With hypnosis, the client often discovers the ideas within themselves that will effect the inner healing needed and the practitioner's goal is always therapeutic, to help the client. Is it just like sleep? No, because it is trance, a state of internalised mental focus, not the sleeping or REM dream state in which people are largely unaware of their surroundings. Many clients are often surprised how easy it is to go into trance and how they remain aware throughout. The fact is you are not oblivious to what is going on around you, but continue to take in sensory detail. Please contact Kieron for more information. |
